Adult Choir

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before His presence with singing…   (Psalm 100: 1-2 KJV)

Each Sunday the voices of the Grace Church choir are lifted up in joyous and praiseful singing as we process into the sanctuary and into the choir loft. Under the artful direction of the music director, Donald Du Laney, the choir is coached, teased, and navigated into the challenges of singing as one harmonious and melodious body. Some members have sung with the choir for decades; others have joined more recently.

Whether one is more or less experienced, each choir member is challenged musically by the rhythms and tones of anthems from different centuries and styles. One week we are singing a melodious a cappella anthem in Latin that could have been sung by monks in the 1500s. The following week it might be the subtleties of a twentieth-century composition by Lee Hoiby. In addition to the weekly anthems, the choir starts practicing in the fall to prepare for the annual December Service of Music. Learning the notes, tempo, and German pronunciation of the Bach cantatas is a unique challenge in itself. By the beginning of the new year, we are looking forward to singing the rousing, hand-clapping, foot-stomping songs of the April Gospel Service.

Grace Church Gospel Choir

An essential part of each Thursday evening choir practice is the Bible-based devotions led by a choir member. As we further understand the Word, we grow in our faith and fellowship with our choir family.

If anyone feels called to this joyful ministry of leading the congregation in the worship service hymns and enhancing the worship and praise of God, please contact Donald Du Laney. We welcome you!
