Martin Luther: Justified by Faith

The apostle Paul in his own words was a Pharisee of the Pharisees (Acts 26:4-5).  He followed the Law of Moses, the Ten Commandments and all the other related commandments.  Yet Paul came to the realization that neither he nor anyone else could truly keep God’s law.  The law brought only the knowledge of sin (Rom. 3:20).  He realized that faith was a gift.  God did not demand righteousness of us but, on the contrary, gave us Christ’s own righteousness through the gift of faith.  Paul realized that there was nothing here of human achievement or accomplishment.  Everything came from God alone who justified us, gave us salvation, freely in Jesus Christ.  It was the rediscovery of this message that transformed Martin Luther and literally changed the world.
