Call to Worship
Leader: We come to worship God who walks with us through every challenge.
People: We come to remember what Jesus did when he faced the wilderness and learn from his example.
Leader: When Israel faced wilderness, they were not alone, God was there!
People (to one another): If you are walking through the wilderness, you are not alone, God is with you!
All: We come today to worship God, who gives us strength, courage, and wisdom for every journey and every test!
Opening Prayer
Hymn * “On Eagle’s Wings”
Prayer for Illumination
Scripture Lesson (in Unison) Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16
You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” Because you have made the LORD your refuge, the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, no scourge come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample under foot. Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble; I will rescue them and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them and show them my salvation.

Scripture Lesson Luke 4:1-13
Message Tested The Rev. Robin Miller Currás
Hymn 326 * “Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart”
Affirmation of Faith (in Unison) * from The Theological Declaration of Barmen
Jesus Christ, as he is attested for us in Holy Scripture, is the one Word of God which we have to hear and which we have to trust and obey in life and in death…The Christian Church is the congregation of the brethren in which Jesus Christ acts presently as the Lord in Word and Sacrament through the Holy Spirit. As the Church of pardoned sinners, it has to testify in the midst of a sinful world, with its faith as with its obedience, with its message as with its order, that is solely his property, and that it lives and wants to live solely from his comfort and from his direction[.]
Choral Anthem “Now Behold the Lamb” Kirk Franklin

Pastoral Prayers concluding with The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Hymn 483 * “Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above”
