*Responsive Call to Worship Psalm 98:1-9
One: O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gotten him victory.
All: The Lord has made known his victory; all the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.
One: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
All: Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.

Opening Prayer

*Hymn 156 “Sing of God Made Manifest”

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading (In Unison) Matthew 17:1-8
Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became bright as light. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will set up three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” And when they raised their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus himself Alone. One: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

*Waving of the Peace (Due to flu and other illnesses we are going to “wave” to each other vs. hugging and shaking hands.)

Call to Confession

Unison Prayer of Confession followed by time of Silent Confession
We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and we have not loved our neighbor as ourself. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
Silent Confession.

Assurance of Forgiveness

*Glory Be to God in Song 582 “Glory to God”
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
World without end, without end. Amen. (sing 3 times)
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be. Amen.

Scripture Lesson 2 Peter 1:16-18

Sermon Meet Me on the Mountain The Rev. Cindy Wilcox

Hymn 190 “Swiftly Pass the Clouds of Glory”

*Affirmation of Faith (in unison) The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
