Meeting in the Chapel at Union Congregational, 76 Cooper Avenue, Upper Montclair.

Serving people, through Christ, to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the community and the world around us.

Welcome

Prelude                              “Here I am, Lord”         Dan Schutte

*Responsive Call to Worship       Psalm 105:1-5,40-43
ONE: Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
ALL: Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.
ONE: Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced…They asked, and he brought them quail; he fed them well with the bread of heaven.
ALL: He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed like a river in the desert. For he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy.

Opening Prayer

*Hymn 187                       “Brethren, We Have Met to Worship”

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading (In Unison)        Exodus 16:1-5 The whole congregation of the Israelites set out from Elim and came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt. The whole congregation of the Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” Then the Lord said to Moses, “I am going to rain bread from heaven for you, and each day the people shall go out and gather enough for that day. In that way I will test them, whether they will follow my instruction or not. On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather on other days.” * Please Stand

Time with the Children

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

*Passing of the Peace

Call to Confession

Unison Prayer of Confession followed by time of Silent Confession
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. So here is the truth–Lord, we have, once again, missed the mark: we’ve grumbled against you; we’ve forgotten your provision; we’ve forgotten the freedom you have given us; we’ve forgotten your faithfulness to us; we’ve had blessings amnesia. But, you have promised that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just. You will forgive us when we miss the mark, and so we come before you humbly and honestly and hopefully. Silent Confession.

Assurance of Forgiveness

*Glory Be to God in Song 582               “Glory to God”
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
World without end, without end. Amen. (sing 3 times)

Scripture Lesson Exodus 16:9-15

Sermon           Manna-Quail Farm             The Rev. Cindy Wilcox

*Hymn 65         “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah”

*Affirmation of Faith(in unison)      The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
