Meeting in the Chapel at Union Congregational, 76 Cooper Avenue, Upper Montclair.

Serving people, through Christ, to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the community and the world around us.

Welcome

Prelude, “Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Thy Word”, Johann G. Walther

*Responsive Call to Worship, Psalm 90
ONE: Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
ALL: A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch
in the night.

ONE: Have compassion on your servants. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
ALL: May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands
for us–yes, establish the work of our hands.

Opening Prayer

*Hymn 323, “Sound a Mystic Bamboo Song”

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading (In Unison), Deuteronomy 34:1-5
Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo…and the Lord showed him the whole land…The Lord said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.” And Moses the servant of the Lord died there in Moab, as the Lord had said.

Time with the Children

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

*Passing of the Peace

Call to Confession

Unison Prayer of Confession followed by time of Silent Confession
Lord, forgive us when we try to build our own legacy. Forgive us when we try to override your plans because of distrust, or the false idea that we know better. Forgive us for wanting to see what wasn’t meant to be seen or understood, what it is above our paygrade to understand. Lord, hear our prayer. Christ, hear our prayer.
Silent Confession.

Assurance of Forgiveness

*Glory Be to God in Song, Hymn 582, “Glory to God”
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
World without end, without end. Amen. (sing 3 times)

Scripture Lesson, Deuteronomy 34:6-12

Sermon, Moses: The Legacy, Pastor Cindy

Choral Anthem, “Praise Ye the Lord”, Tchaikovsky

*Affirmation of Faith(in unison), The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
