Serving people, through Christ, to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the community and the world around us.
Exposition
Each word of this mission statement is important.
Grace: We know ourselves to be saved by grace. We are not afraid to confess our sins, in fact, we welcome it.
Presbyterian: We are well versed in the Reformed Tradition, as our former pastor had a PhD in systematic theology. We like to be fed intellectually.
Church: We are a community of faith.
Serving People: We understand that God calls us into relationship with God and with the body of Christ. We have a long history of mutual caring. It is a growing edge for us to connect with the community outside of our church’s building. We understand that we are called to service. We are actively looking for ways to be of service to the community around our church’s building.
Through Christ: We want to be clear that we are a Christian fellowship, and we are also aware of and welcoming to our religiously and culturally diverse neighbors and congregation’s family and friends.
Spiritual Needs: We are open to and seek to be guided by the Holy Spirit. We understand that there is deep spiritual longing in the world. The challenge of the day is for churches to model and grow in connecting with the Spirit and the spirits of God’s beloved.
Physical Needs: We take Matthew 25 seriously. We are very proud of ourselves when we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, take care of the sick, welcome the stranger, and visit those in prison.
Emotional Needs: We recognize that there is a lot of hurt in the world that needs healing. We want to be part of that healing and nurture the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.
Of the Community: We were planted at the corner of Grove Street and Tuxedo Road for a reason. The community around us is our mission field.
And the World Around Us: Grace Presbyterian Church has a long history of international missions. Our understanding of appropriate missions has changed over the years, but we appreciate and seek to foster our connections with God’s beloved around the world.
