Congratulations to the Amazin’ Grace softball team! The Amazin’s finished a great playoff run and won the championship in the Fellowship Softball League this August. They won the final game by a score of 16 to 8 in a game that seemed closer than the final score. Grace scored five times in the top of the last inning, beating a powerful Brothers in Christ Team, BIC, who had not lost a regular season game all season. (But Grace beat them twice in the playoffs.)
Almost all the hits for Grace were singles, except for one long home run. Our base running was heads-up and skillful, which kept BIC off balance. One of the most exciting plays in softball is to see runners take an extra base and challenge the fielders to throw them out. All players got a hit in a great team effort. Meanwhile, BIC had lots of big strong players, who simply hit lots of long-fly balls that our outfielders caught for outs. The pitching by young Jake Thomas was spectacular, and he often had the hitters off stride to make them hit high flies, pop-ups, or grounders to the infield. Grace will keep the League Trophy for a year; it will be passed on to the 2025 winner next year.
