It was just an ordinary conversation— two women discussing the “getting older” algorithm until the issue of possible cognitive decline became cognitive divine. And then came the laughter, the word correction and the conversation that morphed into, “Don’t worry about it; it’s only dementia if you didn’t know you used the wrong word.” Lastly, we decided that we needed more cognitive divine, wisdom from above promising heaven’s guidance, a Holy lance, the Spear of Destiny* thrusting us into life’s journey, focused, determined to serve, championing God’s love, the lance carried with resilient cognitive divine where we stand, lights each a Neriah,** lamps of the Lord, shining words stored up in our hearts, not only there, but in actions to share connecting to all around, resounding God’s love and care. It was just an ordinary conversation that ended in a recognition of all humanity’s connection, all humanity’s joys and sorrows to bear.

*The Spear of Destiny: The Holy Lance aka the Lance of Longinus, named for the centurion alleged to have pierced the side of Jesus on the Cross (Latin Lancea Longini), who stated: ”Truly, this man was the Son of God.” The Lance is popular in our time in novels, films and comic books, including Indiana Jones and the Spear of Destiny. A copy of the Lance was given as a gift offered by the German Emperor Otto III to Boleslaus the Brave in 1000 AD who later became the first King of Poland. (Image in the public domain)
** Neriah: Hebrew for the lamp of God representing divinity, wisdom, light, intellect and good works.
