Jean Samson’s New Age Birthday Party
The gathering of 28 family members from three states was unique. Wearing colorful paper hats, displaying balloons, and enjoying the traditional cake and candles, they assembled technologically to honor me on April 30, my 95th birthday. How could this have happened? Each of us was at home, self-distancing and obeying the strict rules that severely curtail most activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Do you know the answer? Ah, it seems that anything is possible with Zoom! It was a wonderful party. We were face-to-face, seeing and hearing one another and sharing much laughter and the pleasure of just being together even as distance separated us. The gala affair concluded with a musical video containing a trove of photos spanning 95 years of our family life.
Now, for me, it’s onward to one hundred!
