Remembering Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Out of this mountain of despair we will hew out a stone of hope. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Welcome

Prelude “The Center of My Joy” Richard Smallwood

*Responsive Call to Worship Psalm 100
One: Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song
All: Know this: the Lord himself is God; He himself has made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
One: Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise; give thanks to him and call upon his name.
All: For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

Opening Prayer

*Hymn 339 “Lift Every Voice and Sing”

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading (In Unison) Isaiah 42:1-4
Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry out or lift up his voice or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be crushed until he has established justice in the earth, and the coastlands wait for his teaching.

One: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God

Time With Children Jeffery Blanford

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

*Passing of the Peace (Please let children pass before standing)

Call to Confession

Unison Prayer of Confession followed by time of Silent Confession
Dear Lord we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, but what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart, mind and soul and we have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. Silent Confession.

Assurance of Forgiveness

*Glory Be to God in Song 582 “Glory to God”
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
World without end, without end. Amen. (sing 3 times)
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be. Amen.
