Prelude Prelude on Repton Robert Powell
Welcome And Opening Prayer
Hymn Will You Come and Follow Me
Will You Come And Follow Me
If I But Call Your Name?
Will You Go Where You Don’t Know
And Never Be The Same?
Will You Let My Love Be Shown,
Will You Let My Name Be Known,
Will You Let My Life Be Grown
In You And You In Me?
Will You Leave Yourself Behind
If I But Call Your Name?
Will You Care For Cruel And Kind
And Never Be The Same?
Will You Risk The Hostile Stare
Should Your Life Attract Or Scare?
Will You Let Me Answer Prayer
In You And You In Me?
Will You Let The Blinded See
If I But Call Your Name?
Will You Set The Prisoners Free
And Never Be The Same?
Will You Kiss The Leper Clean,
And Do Such As This Unseen,
And Admit To What I Mean
In You And You In Me?
Will You Love The ‘You’ You Hide
If I But Call Your Name?
Will You Quell The Fear Inside
And Never Be The Same?
Will You Use The Faith You’ve Found
To Reshape The World Around,
Through My Sight And Touch And Sound
In You And You In Me?
Lord, Your Summons Echoes True
When You But Call My Name.
Let Me Turn And Follow You
And Never Be The Same.
In Your Company I’ll Go
Where Your Love And Footsteps Show.
Thus I’ll Move And Live And Grow
In You And You In Me.
Confession of Sin/Assurance of Pardon
God, we have not done what is blameless and right, nor spoken truth from the heart with love. We do not keep your word, and when we participate in gossip, our words and deeds cause pain. Forgive us by the power of Your mercy, that we might stand in the goodness of Christ and walk in the light of his love. (Silent Confession)
Scripture Reading Mark 1:16-20
As Jesus passed along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fish for people.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John, who were in their boat mending the nets. Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Pastoral Prayer/The Lord’s Prayer
Let us pray to the Lord, saying, God of light, hear our prayer.
Loving God,
your light reveals the needs of our world and your salvation offers hope to the lost. Therefore we pray for our world and our community.
For your holy church,
that all the baptized may live in harmony with one another,
and our pastors and teachers may be wise and gracious ministers
of the gospel;
God of light, hear our prayer.
For the world and for all who suffer the rod of oppression:
break the yoke of violence,
and free all people from the burden of war and domestic strife;God of light, hear our prayer.
For the leaders of the nations,
that they may be just and faithful in their duty and serve the good of all creation; God of light, hear our prayer.
For those who suffer disease of body and mind,
that they may know the power of your healing grace; God of light, hear our prayer.
For those who have died
and for those who will die this day, that they may find eternal rest; and for those who care for the dying that they may find peace and comfort. God of light, hear our prayer.
For other concerns we offer in silence . . .
[Silence is kept to allow additional intercessions.]
God of light, hear our prayer.
Hear, O Lord, the cries of your people.
Be gracious to us and answer us, for you are our salvation. So let us pray the prayer that Jesus taught us through Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Affirmation of Faith Taken from the Confession of Belhar
We believe
- that God has revealed God’s self as the one who wishes to bring about justice and true peace among people; (Isaiah 42:1–7)
- that God, in a world full of injustice and enmity, is in a special way the God of the destitute, the poor and the wronged (Luke 6:20–26)
- that God calls the church to follow God in this; for God brings justice to the oppressed and gives bread to the hungry; (Luke 4:16–19)
- that God frees the prisoner and restores sight to the blind; (Luke 7:22)
- that God supports the downtrodden, protects the stranger, helps orphans and widows and blocks the path of the ungodly; (Psalm 146)
- that for God pure and undefiled religion is to visit the orphans and the widows in their suffering; (James 1:27)
- that God wishes to teach the church to do what is good and to seek the right; (Micah 6:8)
- that the church must therefore stand by people in any form of suffering and need, which implies, among other things, that the church must witness against and strive against any form of injustice, so that justice may roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream; (Amos 5:14–15, 23–24)
- that the church as the possession of God must stand where the Lord stands, namely against injustice and with the wronged; (Psalm 82:1–5)
- that in following Christ the church must witness against all the powerful and privileged who selfishly seek their own interests and thus control and harm others. (Leviticus 19:15)
Hymn Take My Life and Let It Be Consecrated
Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee;
take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love,
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee;
take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King,
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages for thee;
take my silver and my gold,
not a mite would I withhold,
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my love, my God, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store;
take myself and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.
Benediction
