Serving people, through Christ, to meet the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the community and the world around us.

Welcome

Prelude “Arietta” Edward Grieg

*Call to Worship Psalm 24
One: The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world and those who dwell
therein.
All: For the Lord has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.
One: Let us lift up our heads, O gates, and be lifted up, O everlasting doors, that
the King of glory may come in. Who is the King of Glory?
All: The Lord strong and mighty, truly the Lord of hosts is the king of glory.
One: This is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Opening Prayer

*Hymn 494 “Out of Deep, Unordered Water”

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading (In Unison) Psalm 42: 1-5
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

One: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God

Time With Children

*Passing of the Peace

Call to Confession

Unison Prayer of Confession followed by time of Silent Confession
Gracious and loving God, we come before you painfully aware of ourselves, living in a state of conflict with the people and policies, with ourselves and our choices, and even with you. You have called us to walk in the Spirit with love, but we choose to walk our own conflicted paths. We confess that we have missed the mark, the bullseye, and have missed out on expressing grace and compassion. We honestly and humbly acknowledge our mistakes and ask for your mercy. By the Power of your Holy Spirit, may we be filled anew with your unity and healing, and bear the fruit of your kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. Silent Confession.

Assurance of Forgiveness

*Glory Be to God in Song Glory to God
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
World without end, without end. Amen. (sing 3 times)
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be. Amen.

Scripture Lesson John 4: 7-14
One: This is the Word of the Lord All: Thanks Be to God

Sermon Water, Water, Everywhere The Rev. Cynthia Wilcox

*Hymn 368 “I’ve Got Peace Like A River”

*Affirmation of Faith (in unison) The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Introduction to the Offering

Offertory “To a Wild Rose” Edward McDowell

*Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below;
Alleluia, Alleluia.
Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.

Prayer of Dedication

Pastoral Prayers concluding with The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Announcements

*Hymn “When Peace Like A River”
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Chorus
It is well with my soul, It is well with my soul,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And has shed His own blood for my soul. (chorus)

My sin—O, the bliss of this glorious thought, My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! (chorus)

And Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul. (chorus)

*Benediction
(All are welcome to join us for coffee hour after the service!)
