Responsive Call to Worship (from Lamentations 3)

One: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end;

All: They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

One: Let us stand and sing!
Hymn 276* “Great Is Thy Faithfulness, v. 1”

One: “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

All: The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.

Scripture Lesson (Unison) Psalm 130:1-2, 5-6

Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.

Message From Mourning to Dancing The Rev. Robin Miller Currás

Hymn 469* “Morning Has Broken”

Affirmation of Faith (in unison) Psalm 30

I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up, and did not let my foes rejoice over me. O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. O LORD, you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit. Sing praises to the LORD, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment; his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning. As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” By your favor, O LORD, you had established me as a strong mountain; you hid your face; I was dismayed. To you, O LORD, I cried, and to the LORD I made supplication: “What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the Pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me! O LORD, be my helper!” You have turned my mourning into dancing; you have taken off my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, so that my soul may praise you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Pastoral Prayers concluding with the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Hymn 339* “Be Thou My Vision”

Benediction

The liturgy is prepared by Pastor Robin each week. Sometimes she uses outside sources for inspiration which are noted here. The pastoral prayer in recent weeks has been shaped in conversation with World In Prayer, a ministry of the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, in Lodi, CA, USA, whose mission is to assist Christians to pray with current events in mind.
