After much discussion and prayer, on March 4, 2018, the Session of Grace Presbyterian Church voted, with concurrent advisement from the Board of Deacons, to join other congregations in supporting the Sanctuary movement in Montclair. The congregations, organizations, and individuals from our community that have joined this effort have named it the Montclair Sanctuary Alliance. According to the Stated Mission of The Montclair Sanctuary Alliance:
“an interfaith network of congregations, organizations, and individuals offering sanctuary to individuals resisting detention and deportation in order to stay together with their families and communities. We stand publicly against the injustices affecting immigrants and supports reforms to promote fairness.”
We, as a church community, affirm the MSA’s mission and will be an active participant in that mission. See our detailed statement here.
