On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, a young man shot and killed eight people at three businesses in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. Six of the eight victims were Asian women. In response to this horrific event, and in response to rising anti-Asian sentiment in the United States, the Session of Grace Presbyterian Church states the following:
Jesus commands us to love our neighbor. (Luke 10:25–28) Jesus also teaches us that every human being is our neighbor. (Luke 10:29–37) In Jesus God has taken away the barriers that humans have invented between people. (Galatians 3:28) Therefore we, the Session of Grace Presbyterian Church, stand in solidarity with our Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) neighbors. We condemn acts of violence, hatred, and racism against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. We condemn the abuse and exploitation of all women. We pray that God will bring peace and equity among all people in our age as we look forward to the return of Jesus Christ.
