Welcome

Prelude “Meditation” Jacob Arcadelt

Responsive Call to Worship Psalm 121
One: I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
All: He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
One: The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
All: The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Opening Prayer

*Hymn 12 “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”

Prayer for Illumination

Scripture Reading (In Unison) Genesis 12:1-4a
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

One: The Word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God

Dear Lord, We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone, We have not loved you with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. Silent Confession.

Assurance of Forgiveness

*Glory Be to God in Song 582 “Glory To God”
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
World without end, without end. Amen. (sing 3 times)

Scripture Lesson Romans 4:1-3

Sermon Believe The Rev. Cynthia Wilcox

*Hymn 51 “To Abraham and Sarah”

*Affirmation of Faith (in unison) The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
