Responsive Call to Worship

One: O Lord, our Sovereign God, You are neither made nor fashioned by anyone.

All: You are faithful Father, servant Son, and enlivening Spirit.

One: Holy Lord, beautiful and dynamic, Intimately united as a society of love,

All: You are our Creator and cause, You are our perfect Savior, You are our Intercessor and giver of spiritual gifts.

One: The Lord of all has called us forth; Our Triune God has made us good.

All: Hallelujah, bless the Lord. Hallelujah, praise God’s holy name!

Scripture Lesson (Unison)    Hebrews 1: 1-14

Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds and his servants flames of fire.” But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” And, “In the beginning, Lord, you founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like clothing; like a cloak you will roll them up, and like clothing they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will never end.” And to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? Are not all angels spirits in the divine service, sent to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

Song “Jesus Loves Me”

Unison Prayer of Confession followed by Personal Silent Confession

Holy and triune God, You alone live in perfect relationship, One God in three persons, Mutual and loving,  Ever seeking reconciliation and unity. You have called us to live in your completion, yet we confess that our relationships are imperfect and we are incomplete without you. We can be selfish and greedy. We can be anxious and resentful. We feel the shame of our behavior and brokenness. We have allowed sin to drive us apart from one another and from you. Forgive us and restore us, Draw us close and bind us together in your mercy.  May we long for wholeness and peace, May we strive toward gratitude and grace In the saving name of your son, Jesus Christ, By the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith (in unison)     The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible; And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, light from light, true God from true God, begotten made, of one substance with the Father, through Whom all things came into existence, Who because of us men and because of our salvation c down from the heavens, and was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man, and was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures and ascended to heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father, and will come again with glory to judge living and dead, of Whose kingdom there will be no end; And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and life-giver, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is together worshipped and together glorified, Who spoke through the prophets; in one holy Catholic and apostolic Church. We confess one baptism to the remission of sins; we look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
