Does it seem like a given to say that music ministry is essential to meeting the spiritual needs of the Grace community? Maybe so. With that in mind, think of how blessed Grace Presbyterian Church is to have abundant musical resources. We have a magnificent organ and piano in our sanctuary that get played every week during worship. We have individuals whom God has gifted with fine singing voices and the ability to read music and sing multi-part harmony. We have had, and continue to have, the services of superbly talented music directors in the persons of Donald Du Laney and now David Malyszko. We have instrumental musicians like horn and trumpet player Richard Hagan and violinist Elizabeth Moulthrop. God has truly blessed Grace with abundant musical riches.
Grace Presbyterian Church has long had a rich and vibrant music ministry with a talented and versatile adult choir at its center. The COVID-19 pandemic put a temporary hold on much of the in-person choral music ministry, although during that time we gathered a respectable library of online recordings of hymns, anthems, and carols thanks to the efforts of Gwen Leggett Blackman.
The choir resumed its in-person ministry in fall 2022, at first monthly during worship, then biweekly, singing Gospel and classical anthems. They will resume in September 2023 with a similar schedule, expanding the number of Sundays they sing as their ranks grow. Which leads to a closing question: Could you see yourself singing with the choir? The choir welcomes individuals at all skill levels. Speak with David Malyszko or one of the current choir members if you are interested. You can sit in for a rehearsal or two with no obligation. You and the choir will both be blessed!
