Welcome And Opening Prayer
Prelude Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Hans Friedrich Micheelsen
Responsive Call to Worship
One: O God, you are our God, and we seek you.
All: Our souls thirst for you as in a dry and weary land.
One: We look for you in the sanctuary.
All: The sanctuary of our hearts, our homes, and throughout all of creation. For here, we have been refreshed and renewed, our spiritual thirst quenched.
One: Your love pours over us as living water.
All: Our souls praise you. Our whole being rejoices.
One: We lift up our heads.
All: We call on your name.
One: Let us be filled!
All: Let us worship God!
Hymn Red 30* “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee”
Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away;
giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!
All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays,
stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in thee.
Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,
well-spring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother–all who live in love are thine;
teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.
Call to Confession
Confession of Sin
Merciful God, like Augustine, we confess that our souls are restless until they find their rest in thee, but we don’t always act like it, and we wander and get lost. We seek fulfillment elsewhere. Help us to discern what is of your Spirit and what is a trap; what frees us, and what ensnares us; what brings us joy, and what only increases the longing. May we be quick learners—quick to take note of our folly—and fast runners–as we make our way toward home. Your house warms like no other. In your arms, we find release. At your feet, we find nourishment and hope. In your presence, we can rest. In the silence of our hearts, let us confess the ways that we wander… (Let us continue, personalizing this prayer for ourselves, in silent prayer.)
Assurance of Pardon
Gloria Patri
Passing of the Peace
Prayer for Illumination in Unison
Prepare our hearts, O God, to accept your word. Silence in us any voices but your own so that we may hear your word and also live it. Through Christ Jesus, our Lord, amen.
Scripture Reading (In Unison) Hebrews 13:5-6, Luke 12:15, Ecclesiastes 2:10-11
Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”
And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”
Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them; I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had spent in doing it, and again, all was vanity and a chasing after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.

Hymn Red 519* “It Is Well with My Soul”
When peace like a river attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll,
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”
It is well with my soul;
it is well, it is well with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
let this blest assurance control:
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and has shed his own blood for my soul.
My sin– O, the bliss of this glorious thought,
my sin– not in part but the whole,
is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend:
“Even so”– it is well with my soul.”
Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer/The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Hymn Red 834* “Lord, Dismiss Us with Your Blessing”
Lord, dismiss us with your blessing;
fill our hearts with joy and peace;
let us each, your love possessing,
triumph in redeeming grace;
O direct us and protect us
traveling through this wilderness.
Thanks we give and adoration
for your gospel’s joyous sound;
may the fruits of your salvation
In our hearts and lives abound;
ever faithful, ever faithful,
to your truth may we be found.
Benediction
