Welcome And Opening Prayer

Hymn Songs of Thankfulness and Praise

Songs of thankfulness and praise,
Jesus, Lord, to you we raise,
once revealed, when heaven’s star
brought the wise men from afar;
Branch of royal David’s stem
in your birth at Bethlehem,
Word before the world began,
God revealed to us in man.

God revealed at Jordan’s stream,
prophet, priest and king supreme,
once revealed in power divine
changing water into wine:
Cana’s holy wedding guest
keeping to the last the best,
Word before the world began,
God revealed to us in man.

God revealed in valiant fight,
conquering the devil’s might,
sins forgiven, sickness healed,
life restored and God revealed:
once revealed in gracious will
ever bringing good from ill,
Word before the world began,
God revealed to us in man.

Stars shall fall and heavens fade,
sun and moon shall dark be made;
Christ will then like lightning shine,
all will see the glorious sign:
all will then the trumpet hear,
all will see the Son appear,
Word before the world began,
God revealed to us in man.

Confession of Sin/Assurance of Pardon

Holy and all-powerful God, who commands all spirits, comforts those in distress, and casts out destructive forces, we confess that we are unable to do your will. We protect what is familiar and reject what is unknown. We admire those with courage but excuse ourselves when we falter from the truth. We forget that you are always with us, and that with you all things are possible. Forgive us, lead us, make us new. Remove our desire to heed false prophets, and show us your way; in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, Mother of us all. (Silent Confession)

Scripture Reading     John 14:1-7

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.

Pastoral Prayer/The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Hymn To God Be the Glory

To God be the glory, great things he hath done,
so loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he hath done.

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
to every believer the promise of God;
the vilest offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
but purer, and higher and greater will be
our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.
