Welcome       Alex Kirkland

Prelude                                    “Largo from Xerxes”                G.F. Handel

*Responsive Call to Worship     Psalm 66   Declan Sharrock

One: Praise our God, all peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard;  he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping.

All:  I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you—  vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.

One: Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.

All: but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!

Opening Prayer             Teresa Simmons

*Hymn 839                                       “Blessed Assurance”

Prayer for Illumination     Olivia Kirkland

Scripture Reading (In Unison)     Acts 17:22-29     Olivia Kirkland
Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “People of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.

“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

“Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill.
One: The Word of the Lord   All: Thanks be to God

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
